White water rafting
A wild horse made of water

The best white water rafting in India is done on the mighty snow-fed rivers flowing down from the heights of the Himalayas to the plains. Most of the rivers reach ancient pilgrim spots downhill. And some of the devotees who gather there, are adventurers who’ve come to worship Mother Nature in an untamed form.

These rivers rush down from the icy heights at nail-biting speeds, gushing between densely forested mountains and through steep gorges. These water roller-coasters are quite deceptively named: The sacred Alaknanda, the Bhagirathi, the Indus River, Zanskar and Teesta.

In the south of the Country, the river Barapole in Coorg provides excellent rafting opportunities. Dandeli is yet another popular white water rafting spot in Karnataka that offers both long and short runs.

About India

India is a whole sub-continent that was turned into a nation by a quirk of history. Through historical and cultural ties, it once included Afghanistan, Pakistan, Nepal and Bangladesh. This sprawling landscape was full of kingdoms that alternately practised war and peace with each other.
