Bicycling | FAQs

Our most popular rides are conducted in the friendly and pretty terrain of the Deccan Plateau around Bangalore. However, if you and your friends would like to take the excitement up a notch or two, you would find us very helpful. Rides can run through forests, hills, villages and even hug the coastline.

Our tours are planned in such a way that you experience the destinations on the road at your own pace. A support vehicle is always there at your disposal and follows the group of riders throughout the ride. Of course, you may have questions before you decide on a bicycling tour operator. Hope the answers here ring a bell.

How do I get to the starting point?
Mykil tum cykil leke jao.

That’s simple, the start point will be made known to you on the phone, when you call to enquire about the ride, or by e-mail if you mail us about it. Once you confirm your interest, the full details of the trip will be e-mailed to you. And finally, a day before the ride, a reminder of the place and time will reach you by SMS. You will need to reach the start point on your own.

What kind of terrain do we cycle in?
Friendly terrains, but if your group wants to push the envelope - no worries, we run the post office.

Our most popular rides are conducted in the friendly and pretty terrain of the Deccan Plateau around Bangalore. However, if you and your friends would like to take the excitement up a notch or two, you would find us very helpful. Rides can run through forests, hills, villages and even hug the coastline. We plan every bit of the route in advance, and when bicycling inside the city we take the roads with minimal traffic.

What should I bring with me?
Some leg muscles, and lots of attitude.

Please bring your cycle and basic cycling gear, like helmets and gloves. Wear some light clothing (cotton T-shirts/dry-fit tops/shorts/track pant). As for the shoes, try to wear something with a hard sole. You see, soft soles are good for running, because the shock of the foot falls need to be absorbed. But in cycling, the pressure exerted on the pedal should be transferred completely, without any loss of energy through the soles. Hence light shoes with hard soles would be ideal. Sufficient water will be provided, but do get your own bottles. If needed, carry hydration drinks. A pair of nice shades will be helpful during the ride.

What about refreshments?
Go on, drink and ride. If you see double, it’s probably a tandem cycle.

We provide plenty of good and wholesome hydrating fluids. Bottled water, and packaged juices. If we start before eight in the morning, we offer a light breakfast and lunch. And at suitable intervals during the day, we provide juice and light snacks. Bicycling is best done with a light tummy, though not an empty one. We will ensure that all of us have the energy for the ride.

How many participants come on a typical trip?
We asked our numerologist for the best number, he never got back.

Anything from 5-50 cyclists! We can customize a ride for even a single participant if required. Apart from the cyclists, there will be volunteers/guides from Motours who will help us along the way.

What time do we start and when do we finish?
Can you believe we left our 9 to 5 jobs, for a 6 to 4 one?

All rides start early in the morning and end before sundown. However, the start time and the end time depend on the ride. For 1-day rides, we normally assemble at the designated spot by 6:00 AM and are back by 4:00 PM. But again, longer rides may take a little more time!

What if I’m unable to cycle the full distance? Do you provide a support vehicle during the ride?
Sure, it’s a fun bicycle ride, not boot camp.

Our tours are planned in such a way that you experience the destinations on the road at your own pace. A support vehicle is always there at your disposal and follows the group of riders throughout the ride. It also carries our support materials and belongings. If at any point the riding seems a little hard, just step into the van and rest, for as long as you wish to. Your cycle will be loaded on to the van, and offloaded when you want to ride again.

Can kids go on a TransTrails ride?
Well, kids are naturals for mind-expanding bike rides.

Though our regular trips are restricted to adults who are 18 and older, we design customized trips to meet the needs of adults who wish to cycle with children. Which means we offer safe and interesting routes, that are properly researched and designed for adults who are travelling with a group of kids.

About India

India is a whole sub-continent that was turned into a nation by a quirk of history. Through historical and cultural ties, it once included Afghanistan, Pakistan, Nepal and Bangladesh. This sprawling landscape was full of kingdoms that alternately practised war and peace with each other.
